This is the latest book on Real Tennis written by two great Tennis enthusiasts from England. The book delves deeply into the history of the game in England, and opens up a world of previously unknown places and people related to Tennis. In a series of informative short stories on different aspects of the game but with interlinking themes, this book takes our understanding of how Tennis has developed in Britain to a new level.
There are chapters explaining how Tennis established itself in specific areas of the country, how some of the architectural features found in the courts evolved and why these great sporting palaces were sometimes used, and occasionally lost, because they hosted other activities. The authors have also examined the dramatic effect on the parent game of the birth of its offspring, Lawn Tennis, along with the reaction of the Tennis heirarchy to its arrival.
The book is a large 4to/A4 size in hardboards and decorative dust-wrapper with c250 pages and with many images.
